Prosumer Communities

I didn't even know what prosumer communities was until I read this book. How it makes sense to involve the customer in the creation of a product. I was particularly interested in the Lego corporation and how initially they responded with threats when receiving feedback and suggestions from their customers. But instead of lawsuits they began to realize the creativity that so many people could bring to their product. Great way to build upon an idea.

I struggle with the whole money issue, too. Having been in business for 25 years, I cannot fathom how freely people are sharing this stuff that really does have value -- that others can and do use to make money even though the creator is giving it away for free through these collaborative sites. But maybe my world view needs to change. Maybe I have an old paradigm. Maybe this is how new businesses and inventions and innovations will get the exposure they need to become successful, profitable ventures.
